155-Pound Champion Returns to Defend Title, New 185-Pound Champion Will Be Determined on January 23rd
Jan 9, 2016 | by: FCFF Staff

Portland, OR - On Saturday, January 23rd the Full Contact Fighting Federation (FCFF) will kick off the new year with their 85th installment of Portland's longest running mixed martial arts (MMA) event: Rumble @ The Roseland. There will be two FCFF Championship fights in the Middleweight (185-pounds) and Lightweight (155-pound) divisions. Plus a loaded undercard featuring the top mma talent of Portland and beyond. The FCFF ringcard girls will be available for selfies with fans one-hour prior to the first fight at 7pm sharp. Tickets available without a fee at Bridge City Fight Shop, or online at cascade tickets. More info and updated fight cards available at thefcff.com.

The Main Event:

185lb Title: Austin Vanderford (Rogue Combat Academy) vs Daniel Pihl (Rose City FC)

The "Main Event" presented by Bad Guy inc will feature a battle for the Middleweight belt between Austin Vanderford (undefeated 3-0) and Daniel Phil of the immensely popular Rose City FC gym. Vanderford had two impressive round-one wins in 2015. His first was on September 12th at the "Battle in the Burg II: MMA Cage Fights" event over Eric McConico via a triangle choke submission. Next he took on Michael Collazo in October at the "Budofights 13" event and grabbed the round one victory in the final second via a TKO/Referee Stoppage due to strikes. This will be Vanderford's first fight in the FCFF and he will face Daniel Pihl, who has exclusively fought in FCFF events. Pihl made a name for himself in his very first fight at Rumble @ The Roseland 65 with a round one keylock submission over Josh Bird. He overcame back-to-back losses with a new found determination. He faced a formidable opponent, Scott Baker of Hood River (who has been a title contender in the past) and won via a round one TKO/referee stoppage in 95 seconds of the fight. "Both of these fighters are submission experts and possess stand-up power. This fight could be over quickly or be a chess match, it could go either way," said FCFF matchmaker, Heather Standing.

Co-Main Event

155lb Title: Joey Dursse (Impact JJ) vs Justin Zabroski (Rise MA)

Justin Zabroski, the FCFF's current Lightweight Champion will return on Saturday, January 23rd to defend his FCFF Title against Joey Dursse at Rumble @ The Roseland 85: Prime Time. The Co-main event is sponsored by 1950 Clothing. Zabroski became the FCFF Champion on August 22nd at Rumble @ The Roseland 83 by a unanimous decision victory over Thomas Patrick. In 2014 he faced Jonah Mitchell at the International Fighting Championship event in August and won via a round-one rear naked choke victory. Zabroski has two more wins on his MMA resume including a decision victory over Kody Hammond at "Beach Brawls" and a rear naked choke win over Brandon Nunn in his debut at the Midtown Throwdown event. Zabroski will face a man very hungry for a Title: Joey Dursse. Dursse has been bouncing around mma events in Oregon since 2012, with his most recent win coming in September of 2015 against Ed Baitey at the "Battle at the Burg III" event. "Joey is a brawler. He's taken every fight to the judge's scorecards. He'll go toe-to-toe to the end," explained Standing.

On the undercard three fighters from Portland Thai Boxing will be making a push to rise into title contention: Alex Aguilar (undefeated, 3-0) at 170-pounds, Jeramy Burford (who has KO power) at 165-pounds and newbie: Tunde Arigbon who is looking for his second win.
